good vibrations guide to sex

This week’s MSP Book of the Week is The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex - one of all my all-time favorite books about sexuality, sex toys, introducing toys into a relationship and trying new things by yourself or with a partner.

Small penis syndrome?

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

This is an interesting letter from a woman who is from Botswana but currently (at the time of writing) in Europe, writing home about men’s and women’s relationships, passion killings and her thoughts on small penis syndrome.

Here is one quote:

"The local media has long been questioned and rightly so, for sensationalising the cold-blooded murders of mostly female lovers by calling them ‘passion killings’. Just stop for a minute and ask yourself this. What kind of "passion" is involved in violently chopping someone you claim to love to pieces? Where is the "love" in committing a murder most foul."

Transforming Coverage

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Check out this interesting article about media coverage - print, television and cinema - related to transgender women and men. Particularly interesting are the issues related to the LA Times sports writer who disclosed her transition as well as coverage related to Larry King’s genital-focused questionning.

Off-topic: Holiday love

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

I love the holidays, especially when festive bakers sculpt fancy holiday things (like snowmen) out of frosting . Check out these fancy cupcakes that I photographed at a Whole Foods in the DC area.

“The Fertility Diet” and its associated controversy

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

This New York Times article briefly discusses the new book, The Fertility Diet, and makes a good point that has been over-looked in much media coverage related to infertility and dietary changes. Much of the research on nutrition and fertility is correlational - meaning that it shows that certain types of fertility problems are associated with certain types of nutrients or eating patterns. That does not mean that if a woman changes her eating behavior to follow "The Fertility Diet" that she will suddenly (or even gradually) become more fertile. To learn more about the book and the concern that the Times article raises (chiefly, that couples who are already struggling with infertility may now blame themselves for not eating well), read the article here.

Facebook and Match… good? bad? wait-and-see?

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

According to this New York Times article, Match.com is about to launch a Little Black Book application on Facebook which will somehow link Facebook users with Match.com to widen the net of potential dating.

But people already use Facebook to get dates and to hook up and to be passive aggressive to people they like or used to like. And Match.com has thrived on being a place that is private for people who want to meet dates whereas Facebook thrives on its public nature. Will Facebookers want to publicly put themselves out there, saying that they are looking to date? Will this work?

What do you think?
