Pole dancing is not only calorie-burning, but also “Breaking News”?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

CNN has a video about women using pole dancing classes to burn calories, become flexible and get into generally better shape. You can view it here.

Neil Diamond at the Verizon Center = Pure Sex (well, sort of)

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

We were some of the younger fans at the Neil Diamond concert (he is one of my all time favorites) but certainly not the only ones. Here are two photos that we took at his show at the Verizon Center in Washington DC last night:

I don’t care what anyone says. The man can still draw a crowd, and he still draws screams of joy rather than terror when he rips off his jacket (the shirt never comes off, of course). He played three songs from his recent album and two from his acoustic album that came out a few years ago (including a phenomenal version of his "Hell Yeah" song) plus the usuals - Sweet Caroline, Brother Love, Cherry Cherry, Cracklin’ Rose, Kentucky Woman, Comin’ to America, Brooklyn Roads and more.

Naked Olympians make people curious about Powerade… and the gym?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I mean, come on. Since when have so many people scoured the internet for information about Powerade?

Thanks to an ingenious advertising campaign in the UK, Powerade is getting notice if not for its sports drinks, then for the naked Olympians who are hawking them. Since most of us don’t see bodies like these in our mirrors, why not in ad campaigns? Or for those of us - like me - who live in the USA where we are apparently unusually skittish about naked human bodies, then at least we can view them on the internet.

You can read more here (at the Daily Mail) and here (at Gawker, where Sheila is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers thanks to her attention to sexuality-related issues).

(Thanks to Michael for the tip).

US won’t air naked Eva Mendes commercial

Monday, August 4th, 2008

The commerical is for Calvin Klein’s fragrance and it features Eva Mendes rolling around in a bed (?) largely naked. And since the United States more easily shows violence on television compared to nudity, you can pretty much guess that you will see lots of murders on TV but not her beautiful human body. But you can see it here. The internet seems not to be scared by nudity.

Storypeople tote bags are out

Monday, August 4th, 2008

You might remember that for Valentine’s Day I put out a little gift guide and I included prints from Storypeople. I got several great comments and emails about that particular suggestion and was happy to hear that several of you had found stories that meant something to you or that you had found a special print or gift for your partner. Well, they have now gotten into making tote bags as per an email that they sent out to fans such as myself. You can see the designs here - I was happy to see that they had included one with their story about what it’s like to live in a world with children. It says:

"There are lives I can imagine without children but none of them have the same laughter & noise."

It reminds me of my friend, Rama’s, story and related art image that you can see here and also - because I am strangely drawn to celebrity interviews about things that matter to me (family, spirituality, sexuality, etc) - it reminds me of an interview with Angelina Jolie about the joys of a growing, and sometimes chaotic family.
