The superhuman body of Michael Phelps - fascinating

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I love stuff like this. NBC has broken down the anatomy of Michael Phelps and how everything from his wingspan to his foot size to the proportions of his legs and torso give him a competitive edge in swimming. See the video here. According to them, a typical workout for Phelps burns about 4000 (!) - yes, FOUR THOUSAND - calories. Consider that next time you finish your 300 calorie workout on the treadmill!

Some time ago, NBC sports did a similar breakdown of Lance Armstrong’s body - check it out here if you’re interested.

On a sex note… Of course, when it comes to sex, it is not so much about an individual person’s body as it is about the fit and interaction of TWO bodies. When women and men ask me questions about penis size, vaginal size, breast size, etc., so much has to do with what you plan on doing with your parts and who you plan on doing them with. A penis that feels small or averge to one person may feel huge to another. The same thing is true with vaginas (the inside part) and vulvas (the outside parts of women’s genitals).

MSP Quote of the Day

Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence.
  - Robert Frost

That’s an interesting interpretation of what it means to be educated. I would perhaps say that this reflects education, self-awareness and patience. Or maybe just education and patience, if to be educated also means to be educated in one’s own limits and sense of self and self-worth. I wonder… what types of sex news or information make you lose your temper or your self-confidence? Some people fall to pieces when they hear about rape, abuse or adultery. For others, it might be a fetish or monogamy or polygamy or a lawmaker who pretends to be against some sexual behavior only to be found out to be someone who privately takes part in that behavior.

In high school, I had an instructor (Russell Weatherspoon, one of the best I have come across) who taught me more about patience, self-awareness and being genuine than I was able to grasp at the time. I am still working on it now. He would seem to me to embody Frost’s interpretation of "education" though.

Clitoria the flower?

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

As much as I enjoy gardening, I was previously not aware of this flower. Thanks to M for sending me the following message:

"Was watching a food related show and they mentioned this flower.  One can obviously see where they get the name, apparently its edible (assuming that its grown properly, without chemicals, blah, blah, blah).  Not sure if you knew about this."

I imagine the similarities end at its appearance, unless it is an extremely sensitive flower that can occasionally result in orgasms when stimulated? Only kidding…
