Is it safe for women to drink while pregnant?

A new study says "maybe". Well, truly that adds to a lot of other "maybe" voices. Recently I was at an event at which a woman who was about 3 months along in her pregnancy sipped some wine and also sipped a bit from her husband’s margarita. Others were (quietly) discussing the realities of drinking during pregnancy, such as whether completing avoiding alcohol during pregnancy was a uniquely American phenomenon and whether the occasional sips (or drinks) would be harmful. A couple of years ago, actress Gwyneth Paltrow made headlines for drinking the occasional beer while pregnant. Read what the CDC has to say about drinking alcohol during pregnancy.

As a special ed teacher, I have seen too much the effects of drinking while pregnant. I know there are people who do who have babies who seem to not have ill effects, but I say why take the chance?
