Visanthe Shiancoe’s penis on Fox TV

Thanks to Tim for pointing out that Visanthe Shiancoe’s penis made an appearance on Fox TV after the Vikings-Lions game. The picture and video have been circulating around the internet and can be found on this web site. (A larger version of the photo is on this celebrity site).

Apparently there was quite an uproar (by some) over the issue. And yet, it’s a grown man’s flaccid penis in a locker room. Something that millions of men see in locker rooms every day, just as women see each other naked in locker rooms. I understand that families weren’t expecting to see his penis, but is it really so terrible to occasionally glimpse a naked person? What do YOU think?

  • I think that post-Janet-Jackson's-nipple-showing-accidently-during-the-Super-Bowl we are a society that now condemns the human body instead of celebrates it. Seems to me that in this case, some viewers are sexualizing that which isn't directly sexual in the moment - Visanthe's penis is simply a penis at that moment. It's not being used in a sexual manner; it's simply there. It's a body part that got exposed, no different than an arm or a leg or a butt cheek.

Perhaps he didn't take an extra three seconds to consider that moving his towel with cameras in the vicinity might inadvertently flash the TV-viewing public. Perhaps he did it intentionally. Who knows? Who cares? It's a naked body, not footage of the mass murder of children and puppies. Egads, some quarters of our society love to overreact anymore. Let's all tell them to lighten up, huh?
