Dear Powell’s,

You are one of the most amazing bookstores in the country. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it. Your Portland store, in particular, is like a mecca for book lovers everywhere and I have been fortunate to visit it not once but twice! And I thank you from the bottom of my book-lovers heart for carrying my book, Because It Feels Good: A Woman’s Guide to Sexual Pleasure and Satisfaction, in your stores. Thanks to you, women and men may be having better sex right this very second. Maybe even in the powder rooms of your store (well, hopefully  not – you probably don’t want to go there).

I do have one request though:  might you consider moving some of the warehouse copies of Because It Feels Good to the shelves of your Beaverton store in particular? I have family ties to Beaverton, so it would be personally  meaningful to me to be in both your Burnside store (as my book is now) as well as the Beaverton storefront. Also, the word “beaver” is in the town’s name and, well, there are beaver-like things described in my book (the other kind – you know, vulvas and vaginas and things like that). Oh, and if I could be in your Hawthorne store, too, that would be lovely – it’s my favorite location of yours, actually (I love Hawthorne Street – such good vintage clothing and also the site of my first appetizer crawl that my friend Rama and I went on many moons ago).

I’m on the cover of my book, actually. It felt strange at first to see my smiling face there (see sidebar) but then I got used to it. And if you stock my book at your Beaverton and Hawthorne Street locations then every time you walk by my  book and see my smiling face, you will remember how happy you are making me feel by carrying my book in two of my favorite shops.

Something to consider while you continue your most excellent work in the world of independent bookstores.
