Del Dotto, Cakebread and other wonders of Napa
I hope that everyone had a lovely Memorial Day weekend (for those readers in the United States). I was in San Francisco and Napa Valley, and it was marvelous. Thanks to Greg at Del Dotto (the cave experience was a wonder, as is the chocolate that they serve with port wine at the end of the tour), Yvonne at Cakebread, the lovely cashier at Mondavi (love the Fume Blanc) for rewarding my honest friend with an extra tasting, and our fantastic waiter at Tra Vigne who clued us into the wonders of their white corn soup ("it’s like a thousand acres of corn fields in each bite!" - he was right) and the fact that they offer half-sized portions so that small-appetited diners (like me) can try a larger variety of plates. Yum, yum, yum.
Thanks, especially, to Michael for sending me a long and educational email about the must-go sites.
French Laundry, can we please set a date next time? (sigh)
[Above image taken in the Valley - that’s me peeking out of a little chapel-like building on the property of a winery that I found endearing).

No date with Mssr. Keller? Rats! I was hoping for a full report. Maybe Per Se next time you are in NYC? I’ve done Bouchon in Vegas and had a great time.

I know, me too! So sad, next time… we were going to go to Bouchon but switched plans at the last minute. It’s good to know that it’s worth checking out, either there or in Vegas, as I love a good meal.
